Colombia

The co-operation between ST and The Colombian Women's Initiative for Peace (IMP) started in 2001 and is planned to continue until 2007. IMP is an alliance of 22 women's organisations from different sectors. The trade union movement, the Indian movement, the peasantry, Afro-Colombians, academics and feminists from different parts of the country participate in the alliance. The objective of the project is to increase women's participation in the peace process and thereby diminish the conflict's effects on women. By promoting an active political acting among the women and by forming a collective power, women can increase their influence over the political decisions that cause changes in the country. When justice and democracy is reached, it is possible to develop freedom of association and freedom of negotiation as well as trade union movements, in a country that is today considered to be the most dangerous for trade unionists.
